At a recent project at Odanadi, the girls produced 'Me' books, setting out their thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams for the future
Rescue Operations: Odanadi runs rescue operations to free women and children from the sex trade and other kinds of abuse. It has to date rescued approximately 2000 people 450 of whom were minors.
Empowerment & Rehabilitation: Odanadi’s groundbreaking rehabilitation programme is widely recognised across India. Short and long-term residents are provided with immediate medical attention and counselling. Odanadi has also developed innovative psycho-therapies which include art forms such as drama, classical dance, yoga, meditation etc. This prepares survivors for life outside the walls of Odanadi to reintegrate into society as strong, confident and empowered individuals. The rehabilitation home which has been running for the past 18 years takes care of 85 rescued women and children, providing a caring environment, education and skills.
Awareness: Odanadi believes building relationships is the most effective way to fight human trafficking at its source. By mobilising local communities, schools, students, police, grassroots organizations and the judiciary, Odanadi aims to create a people’s movement against human trafficking, sexual exploitation and slavery – to end this spiralling abuse of human rights throughout India and across the globe. Vigilance committees are a cornerstone of Odanadi’s grassroots ‘social policing’ philosophy. Currently Odanadi runs 80 such vigilance committees across three districts of Karnataka, in which villagers, farmers, teachers and community leaders participate in monthly group meetings to discuss issues of security, women and child protection schemes, education, and other problems that may arise locally. Other activities include the distribution of educational materials, professional training sessions, school competitions, village performances, anti-trafficking rallies etc.
